I loved awful Aunt Mergatroid and the sweet nighttime scene of the mom giving her daughter four kisses good night. Each artists’ style is special and different in their own way and yet their characters meld together so well. Having four different illustrators is such a unique idea and nicely rounds out the theme of four in the book. Four minutes left to play at the park versus four minutes of a time out are very different indeed! For example, four certainly is a LOT when it’s four watermelons and really only a little when it’s four blueberries. The book also introduces the quantitative aspect of numbers in a way that young, developing minds can grasp. I enjoyed it, and it is a good length with some nicely drawn pictures of different styles.įour is a Little Four is a LOT is a charming picture book every four year old needs to read! As a veteran reading teacher I can confidently say the story line is simple and relevant for any young child to relate to. Overall, if you are thinking of buying this for a gift, don't hesitate any longer. It is funny and I kept reading it to the end even though it was insulting me for doing so.
I recommend reading the "fine print" inside the book.
In some sense it added diversity, but the differences were marked and slightly distracting to me. I think that the concepts in this book are easily understandable for a child that age and that the book is fun and entertaining.Ī child probably wouldn't notice the differences in art styles on the various pages, and I honestly cannot decide whether it bothered me or if I liked it. If you are considering giving this book to your favorite 4 year old, then it is a perfect choice and it isn't very expensive.
